Bloody killing in Kadayawan: Three farmers shot dead in Compostela

August 21, 2018

While the attention of Davao was on Kadayawan, attacks on Lumad schools continue. Last Saturday, a security staff of Salugpongan Learning Center campus in Bango, Compostela Valley, Rolly Panebio, was shot dead at 10:30 pm by motorcycle riding gunmen after finishing his shift.

The next day, a farmer couple, Gilbert and Jane Labial, who are members of the Compostela Farmers Association, were also shot by gunmen after they visited Panebio’s body at Alar Funeral Parlor. A barangay councilor who accompanied the couple witnessed the incident as Labial was driving his motorcycle and made a U-turn when he saw the gunmen. They were shot repeatedly after falling off the highway.

Attacks on farmers and Lumad school members have repeatedly happened in Compostela because of the people’s resistance against mining and militarization.
